Studio Ectypos is a design collaborative begun by Michele Marquardi and Lucia Pirzio-Biroli in 2001. In their work they seek to find a sympathetic relationship between context and project, landscape and building. Their projects are never historically derivative but do have their foundations in historic ideas. The word Ectypos was derived by Chrysostome Quatremere de Quincy in the 18th century from the Greek term ηκτυποσ (archetype, prototype) meaning that ideas are not original but transgress from one context to the next.
