We are committed to sustainable building practices having completed over twenty LEED and Built Green certified projects. Philosophy Enduring architecture occurs through passion and curiosity. We are passionate about the art of design and curious about ways we can constantly improve. Working in partnership with our clients, we strive for thoughtfully designed, sustainably constructed buildings that will achieve our client’s objectives and enhance our community. We are guided by the characteristics of the site and the greater context to create calm light filled sanctuaries away from the rigors of everyday life. Teamwork, communication and commitment are the principles that enable the process to be both rewarding and fun. Sensitive Historic Restoration At Stuart Silk Architects we have had the great privilege of restoring many buildings of historical significance. Some buildings are important antiques, requiring careful stewardship and minimal change. Others require harmonious solutions that respectfully add to and improve existing buildings to meet the needs of today’s complex requirements. The challenge is always to remain invisible as the building history is preserved. Preservation and sustainability have a shared vision, which is to conserve heritage resources for future generations. Commitment to Sustainability Sustainability is integrated throughout our design methodology from beginning to end. At every step of the process there are opportunities for sustainability starting with the recycling of existing buildings to the incorporation of innovative systems and materials that promote the creation of healthy buildings and the conservation of precious resources. Today the technology and science exist that allow us to make substantive differences on every project which are appropriate to our client’s objectives and do not sacrifice aesthetic goals. We help select and manage certification programs such as LEED or Built Green to assure that the benefits of sustainable design are fully integrated. We are a member of the US Green Building Council and Master Builder’s Association. We have a number of LEED accredited professionals on staff and have designed over 20 accredited buildings.
