Robert Hutchison Architecture (RHA) is an award-winning studio designing contemporary projects that balance beauty with pragmatism, and elegance with efficiency, all in concert with nature. We specialize in residences designed around a courtyard, which allows the home to open up to its environment and breathe, and connects residents more deeply to the landscape. We also pay close attention to quality of light, utilizing courtyards, windows, and skylights to draw daylight and greenery into the core of the home. Our inspirations stem from artists and sculptors. We aim for an element of surprise in each project. Founder Robert Hutchison is a Rome Prize fellow whose interests and practice overlap the fields of architecture, art, and photography. He teaches design studios at the University of Washington and Washington State University. Through his practice and classes, Hutchison has forged deep connections to Mexico and Japan, where he has completed several projects.
