Solbeck Residence

The main residence is located near the top of the easterly slope of the site, with other facilities placed along the north property line. The resulting L-shaped compound encloses parking and garden courts at the center of the property. To minimize the sense of enclosure, the main residence is essentially transparent at the main level, allowing views through the house from the court yards to the Olympic Mountains. This transparency allows the most actively used spaces- the kitchen and the dining areas - to have a morning orientation to the easterly courtyards and an afternoon orientation toward the westerly sound and mountain views.
