Brick-Weave House

STUDIO GANG ARCHITECTS — Chicago, IL, 2009

The walled garden for the house is created by means of subtraction. Removal of the former floor and roof in a section of this existing structure left three sheltering walls to temper winds and frost. A warmer ambient temperature is created within the space permitting plants to be grown that would not survive in the natural climate. The incised section of the house cascades from south to north organizing and reshaping a former conglomeration of "lean-to" structures.
