The home is raised above ground to reduce the impact upon existing drainage patte s across the site while increasing available views from all living spaces. The building is sited to maximize privacy and to avoid demolition of the major oak trees existent on the property. The building is both rooted in the site while floating above it. An entry ramp extends onto the property, welcoming visitors and allowing them to slowly experience the forest site as they ascend towards the front door. An exterior terrace behind the house is the same dimension as the family room, and a full width sliding door allows for the space to flow seamlessly outdoors when the weather is pleasant. The home features rainwater collection, low water use plumbing fixtures, FSC certified wood products, bamboo casework and low VOC paints and stains.
