At the rear yard, a simple volume replaces previous ramshackle additions. It combines the living, dining, and kitchen areas into one ample room, with carefully “tuned” door, window, and skylight openings. In this way, the home now has strong relationships to the garden and sky, as well as views to the city, where previously there were none. Conversely, at the front of the structure, within the existing compartmentalized spaces (formerly the living, dining, and parlor rooms), the bedrooms and refurbished bathrooms are now accommodated.
