Werner Pool & Pavilion

The Werner Pool and Pavilion completes the final phase of a multiyear collaboration centered around a historic residence. Initially, in 2012, the client commissioned a guest house reminiscent of a traditional carriage house—an addition that set the tone for future interventions. Years later, they returned to expand the backyard with a pool and open-air pavilion that would enhance the site’s sense of retreat while maintaining architectural continuity. The resulting structure is both modest and precise. Defined by a thin floating roof and cedar-clad perimeter walls, the pavilion creates a calm, shaded threshold between the home and the pool. It serves as a social anchor and seasonal extension of the residence, drawing upon the material language of previous additions while introducing new layers of texture and spatial rhythm. Material clarity, restraint, and thoughtful detailing are central to the design. The cedar fencing and walls blend into the existing landscape, while the pavilion’s airy structure reinforces the project’s commitment to quiet simplicity. Together, the pool and pavilion unify the backyard into a cohesive whole—elevating everyday experiences through subtle architectural intervention. Interested in contacting us about a project?
