Sail Loft House

361 Architecture

Modern house exterior with expansive floor-to-ceiling glass panels and a deck railing in the foreground at dusk.

The design draws upon the elements of a sail loft: a clean tensile structure over an open, communal space accentuating views to the water and the coastal hills beyond. Set on the coast of California just outside of Stinson Beach, CA this lagoon house has commanding views of the coastal hills that rise to the east of the property. We sought to capture the beauty of the natural surroundings by blurring the lines between inside and out. Views of the coastal hills are framed by large picture windows and sliding glass doors open to the deck and garden beyond. The structural framework for the home is comprised of prefabricated structural panels resulting in a quiet and energy efficient home.
