DNM Architect is a San Francisco based architectural firm offering a complete range of services from planning and programming through design, documentation and construction administration. With equal experience in architectural practice and technology, the firm uses intelligent 3D CAD software, to communicate with clients, translate early designs seamlessly into construction documents and manage design changes without disrupting the building process. The firm's approach not only improves the final design, but produces final drawings faster and more accurately than more traditional methods.
The firm advocates environmentally responsible building materials and methods as a means to reducing the energy required to bothconstruct and operate buildings. The firm offers computerized energy analysis (sometimes called T24) for all of its projects as a part of its basic design services.
David Marlatt, AIA, has an equal footing in architectural design and technology as the founder of San Francisco architecture firm, DNM Architect, and former president of a CAD software company. Graduated with an M.ARCH from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1982, he began practicing in Atlanta with Taylor+Williams Architects where his houses and multi-family projects won national awards and publication. From from 1987 to 1999, Mr. Marlatt lead a career in architectural software in Europe and the United States as a director of Paris-based software developer, Abvent SA, president of Graphisoft US, Inc. and finally as Graphisoft's international vice president of Marketing and Communications. He left Graphisoft in 1999 to return to architectural practice.
David N. Marlatt is a registered architect in California and Colorado
""I cannot rate this firm too highly. I retained DNM for a very complicated new home project -- a three story house built on piers over San Francisco Bay. There were huge structural and engineering issues, not to mention a host of code issues to solve. Plus I had definite ideas regarding the design aesthetics. Could this house even be built the way I envisioned? What I got from David Marlatt and his team was they listened, they offered a range of solutions with best-choice recommendations based on experience, and where ideas counter to mine were required the ideas/solutions they came up with were superior to mine, both practically and aesthetically. Every time. Thanks to their advice, this house came out better than I could ever have imagined, and when that's the result you know you are working with professionals. I was, and am, a completely satisfied client.""- Pt. Richmond
""David and his team were our architects for a major remodel of our large Presidio Heights home in San Francisco, and they were absolutely super. The project included foundations, earthquake proofing, energy efficiency improvement, and complete makeover of the kitchen and basement spaces. David is very calm, professional, unpushy and charming to work with, and has really good ideas about how to solve design problems. His team can produce good computer simulations of how everything will look, which really helps when you are trying to make those difficult decisions. I recommend him unreservedly to my friends, and am about to start another project with him.""- San Francisco
""We are currently in the midst of construction for the house David Marlatt and his team at DNM designed for us. It's going to be contemporary in design, energy efficient (lots of passive design elements, for example a gorgeous slanting roof line that's perfect for solar panels), "green" and well tailored to our needs. We are very pleased with DNM's design and services, and it continues to be a real pleasure working with David and his team. One of the great things about David as an architect (and one of the things other clients told us when we checked references) is that he went to great effort to design the house we want - rather than insist on a particular vision if it did not meet our goals. He also did a lot of work to orient and fit our house to a hillside lot that presented multiple design challenges; and created some particularly clever and fun design elements. Another thing we appreciate is that the firm is very business-oriented and clear about the financial aspects of working with them. DNM's use of sophisticated computer software and techniques made it easier for us to "see" how the house will look and operate as well as easily make design changes. For example, DNM used software and a PG&E database to model daily sun movement over the house, to help design such passive elements as overhangs to minimize heat in summer while allowing the sun to enter and warm the house in winter. David also helped us find, evaluate and choose a really great contractor; and he and his team have continued to provide helpful construction phase services to resolve questions that come up during construction and make suggestions as we choose specific elements and fixtures for the house. We recommend DNM very highly.""- Sonoma
""DNM Architect is a great designer, especially for small spaces like in the city of San Francisco. If your home remodeling project is in the city, I would strongly recommend DNM architect. If I had another similar project, I would definitely use them again. Extremely professional, lots of good advice and very knowledgeable. DNM helped us navigate the difficulties and complexities of an extensive home remodeling.""- San Francisco
