Shortridge Architects is a multi-disciplinary design studio based in Santa Monica, California with
a critically-acclaimed portfolio of residential and commercial projects. The firm is the most recent evolution of the practice of Steven Shortridge, AIA whose career spans over twenty years as an
influential and highly-recognized Los Angeles modernist architect.
The firm's collaborative process establishes an intimate relationship between designer, client and craftsman, ensuring that each completed project succeeds in its functional purpose and positively impacts the lives of those who occupy its space. Their respect for an individual’s experience with architecture dictates a tactile approach that produces highly livable spaces that respond to the
multi-sensory way in which we inhabit them.
The studio's vernacular is driven by the integration of three key elements – the programmatic arrangement of volumes, a dedication to craft and detail, and a visual inclination toward timeless yet innovative contemporary aesthetic. Simply stated, the consistency of the studio's work is based on a pursuit and a process, rather than a signature style, allowing each project to take on its own individual character within their design language.
Founded in 2010, the firm traces its roots back to modernist master Franklin Israel with whom Shortridge began his career and whose practice he inherited with former partner Barbara Callas after Israel’s passing in 1996. Since then, Shortridge's collaborations have produced over thirty residences, retail facilities, offices in and around Southern California as well as notable commissions in London and Tel Aviv. The studio's work has appeared in numerous books and magazines including Architectural Digest, Metropolitan Home, House & Garden and Los Angeles Times.
